Bartho commenced his articles in 2008, where he argued his first matters in court. He was admitted as an attorney in the High Court in 2009. After a brief stint in the UK, gaining work experience in the Worcester-based firm, Harrison Clark, he joined Thomson Wilks in 2011.
Bartho is a double graduate from Stellenbosch University, where he obtained his bachelor's degrees in Commerce (BCom) in 2004 and Law (LLB) in 2006. His chosen modules included advanced company, competition, internet and incorporeal property law. He completed his legal studies at the University of Cape Town's School of Legal Practice in 2007. In 2018 Bartho also obtained a postgraduate diploma in Financial Planning from Milpark Business School (with distinction).
Since joining Thomson Wilks, he has led argument in litigation matters throughout the country at district and high court level, sitting as courts of first instance and on appeal. His matters have ranged from day-to-day in nature to high profile cases, and he has had numerous successes in private disputes and against organs of state, representing a diverse client profile. He has also negotiated and drafted various agreements, from parental rights and responsibilities to commodity trading-related agreements.
Bartho has published articles, appeared on televised legal panel discussions and investigative programmes, and heads up the firm's pro bono department. He also sits on the panel of ProBono.Org, collaborating with law firms to provide legal services to under-resourced communities.
He was appointed as a director at Thomson Wilks in 2022, and obtained the requisite Certificate in Practice Management with distinction from the Legal Practice Council. His education and experience have cultivated his interests in identifying expedited legal solutions in commercial and personal matters ranging from estate and tax to property and divorce law.
