After completing his B Juris,  LLB Degrees from the North West University, SA, Stephen served as a Judges Clerk (Senior Researcher) for Justice Tholakele Madala at the Constitutional Court of South Africa for two years from 1995 to 1996.

He went on to serve his Articles of Clerkship at Deneys Reitz Attorneys (Norton Rose) and was admitted as an Attorney in 1999.

Amongst his roles after admission as Attorney Stephen served, amongst others, in the following roles:

  • Legal Advisor and Company Secretary at the South African Weather Service.
  • Trustee of Kopano Ke Matla Trust whose sole beneficiary is COSATU.
  • Independent Non Executive Director of AEEI Limited, a JSE Listed Private Equity Group, until its delisting in 2024.

Stephen has appeared as an Attorney at Section 60 Mine Accident Investigations / Environmental Investigations and Section 65 Inquiries representing different mining companies and mining contractors.

His areas of speciality are:

  • Mining Law
  • Mining Health and Safety Law and Training
  • Corporate Governance and Trustee Governance Training
  • ESG

Stephen also assists with community stakeholder relations issues as a key to mining companies achieves their ESG commitments.

Stephen renders Pro Bono services to various NGO’s including the John Kgoana Nkadimeng Foundation and the Seth Mazibuko Foundation.
