Ian Petherbridge is a seasoned corporate banking and finance lawyer with extensive experience in handling high-value, multi-jurisdictional transactions. Ian specializes in a wide array of financial and corporate matters, including acquisition finance, corporate banking, development finance, debt capital markets, investor services, and project finance.

Over his career, Ian has advised on significant projects across various African, Offshore (BVI and Channel Islands) and European jurisdictions, representing a diverse clientele that includes companies, governments, parastatal entities, independent power producers, investment funds, and lenders. His expertise extends into sectors such as banking, funds, finance, energy, infrastructure, mining, commodities, technology, and real estate.

Prior to his current role, Ian has held prominent positions in prestigious law firms, including serving as the Director and Head of Corporate M&A of an international law firm where he led high-profile transactions and played a critical role in the firm’s expansion into African markets.

Ian has successfully assisted investment banks with transactions across the African jurisdiction and offshore alike. He has also successfully assisted financial institutions and state owned enterprises with their corporate fraud investigations.

Ian's legal practice is marked by a strong focus on managing complex financial transactions, advising on mergers and acquisitions, and providing strategic legal counsel to both corporate and governmental clients. His notable achievements include successfully advising on the listing of $200 million notes on the Bermuda Stock Exchange, managing the financing of major infrastructure projects in Namibia, and leading the legal efforts in the establishment of a new national energy company for the Central Energy Fund Limited in South Africa.

Ian is also a dedicated educator, having lectured corporate and commercial law at the University of Namibia, and he actively contributes to the legal community through his involvement with the Law Society of Namibia.

Ian undertakes work for Namibian and South African clients as well as clients with a presence in Offshore Jurisdictions.
